What Causes Urethritis After Unprotected Sex?

default
Posted on Thu, 5 Jan 2017
Question: I'm wondering if I've developed a uti or not. I had unprotected sex several times over the weekend (I've consistently had sex only with this female for a few months now and she is std free, and is on birth control, and I have not had any issues up until a day or so ago when we have sex). we noticed she was spotting a little (it was almost time for her period to come) and there was some vaginal fluid and blood on my lower abdomen and penis after the last time we had sex Sunday. I ended up not getting to shower until the following day and couldn't wash it much better than using some sink water to wash every thing off as best I could until then. I washed it off probably an hour or so (not positive how long it was) after we finished. I also did not pee right away after the last time we had sex. there is nothing physically wrong or weird on my penis, but my urethra itches (not constantly, but once or twice a day for 30 or 40 minutes). it does not hurt at all when I pee, and I have noticed cloudy discharge in my urine, but it looks to me like it could just be small amounts of precum or semen. In addition, my lower abdomen has been itchy on and off as well, and had a rash on it on Tuesday. it looks like there still might be a bit of a rash there too. the abdominal itching usually occurs at the same time as the urethra itching, or if I touch around the effected area.

Brief Answer:
Chlamydia and Trichomonas urethritis have to be ruled out.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to HCM.
Thanks for posting your query.
With your symptoms, explained by you, it is very difficult to say whether you are having a just an UTI or an urethritis due to STD.
UTI can occur to anybody without a multisex partner sex (even to a newly married couple).
If it is due to STD, it is unlikely be due to Gonorrhea as per your symptoms, but the possibility of Chlamydia and Trichomonas have to be rued out. Simple urinary examination for the presence of pus cells, Tichomonas, and if necessary culture tests and Chlamydia PCR test may help in fixing the diagnosis. Smear from vaginal examination of your sex partner also will give a clue to diagnosis.
Regarding the contact with blood, vaginal fluid, itching over lower abdomen and all, might be due to your anxiety. Ignore and it will settle.
Consult a STD specialist and seek his/her guidance for further management. Have a blood work out to rule other STD/HIV.
