What Causes Urge To Urinate Along With Lower Back Pain?

default
Posted on Tue, 4 Aug 2015
Question: I recently had a mycroscopic urine test which showed "unidentified cells" and "some" red blood cells. Otherwise the urine test was "negative" for everything else that was tested. I have recently had sporadic times when I have a repeated urge to urinate but little or nothing comes out. I've also experienced some lower back ache from time to time. This typically occurs at night.

Brief Answer:
needs further evaluation

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for using HCM,
You need to see your family doctor and have a urinalysis repeated and also have a urine cytology sent. If you still have abnormal cells and blood in the urine you will need a referral to a urologist. A urologist can do a cystoscopy to look in your bladder for the cause. The combination of unidentified cells, blood and back pain are concerning for bladder cancer. There can be other causes but this must be pursued until you have a clear answer.
Let me know if you have further questions.
Regards,
Dr. Robinson
