What Causes Vaginal Bleeding Associated With Back Pain?

default
Posted on Fri, 20 Jun 2014
Question: Hello. I've been bleeding for three weeks with associated back pain. I've had a tubal ligation and an ablation. I'm concerned because I've NEVER had an issue like this. I'll bleed for 8-10 days and then stop for two days and then start bleeding again. I'm concerned it may be cancer. I'm 38.
I've been trying to make an appointment with my ob/gyn but can't get in for at least two more weeks. Can you give me any advice? Thank you Staci

Brief Answer:
You may consult A/E department for anearly review.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for consulting us.
Risk of uterine malignancy is quite low before the age of 40. However, this pattern of blood loss can leave you anemic. So, evaluation & treatment are necessary.
Most important test you need is a pelvic ultrasound to see if there is any organic problem.
Even if you had a tubal ligation better to exclude a pregnancy by doing a urine test.
You surely need a Gynecologist opinion. As your speculum examination by an expert is necessary to exclude any polyp or other obvious pathologies.
It would be unsafe for you to take hormonal pills without testing. Until your evaluation you may take Mifenamic acid 500 mg TDS, if you have no contraindication. Best is to visit an emergency department for evaluation & to get a prescription.
Hope you get well soon.
Take care.
