Question : I had copper cool inserted 7 and half years ago and the last few months I have been getting vaginal bleeding everyday...it's very light when not my menstrual cycle...is this just because of the coil? Or should I get it checked out?

                                    Brief Answer:
Other causes need to be ruled out.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
The light bleeding that you are having daily can be due to the coil. But it is necessary to rule out other causes like cervical erosion, uterine causes, hormonal changes and vaginal infections. It is best to consult your gynecologist for a direct examination, PAP smear and other investigations.
Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
Wishing you good health.

Thanks for ur answer...how seriously should I be taking this? The bleeding is the only stamp ton there is no pain at all, It's just that I work full time and won't get a chance to see my gp for a few weeks, is it quite a common thing for bleeding to start due to the coil 7 years after insertion, I have had no other issues with the coil at all before this always had regular menstrual cycle lasting 7 days

                                    Brief Answer:
Can be a normal variation.
Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
The mild bleeding that you have might be just harmless normal variation in the bleeding pattern due to the coil. In case the bleeding is persistent or is recurrent then do consult your gynecologist for proper evaluation.
Hope my answer is helpful.
