Question : Hi, I have been taking Mircogynon 30 since I was about 18 and I am now 30. My gp said last year it was ok for me to take 2-3 packs back to back on a regular basis but since then I have been experiencing some brown vaginal discharge in between packs.
I went to see my gp yesterday and she has done a smear and chlamydia test but really didn't put me at ease as to whether this is anything to be concerned about and said we will just have to wait for the test results. I am in a sexual relationship and have been for over the last year and we do not use protection. I think this has been an issue since I have started taking the pill back to back and a nurse at NHS walk in clinic that I saw last year said it can be common, hence me only seeing a doctor now.
I have no pain or itching and the discharge does not smell.
The discharge always stops after a couple of days but I am now worried it might be something more serious.
I just wanted to know if this could be a result of me taking the pill back to pack?

                                    Brief Answer:
YES, CAN BEDUE TO BACK TO BACK PILL USAGE
Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX
Thanks for writing to us with your health concern.
IDeally if you take the pill back to back, there should be no bleeding or spotting.
However, at times, mild spotting may result, so do not worry.
It is very much possible that it is due to the back to back pill intake.
You should however have a Pap smear and pelvic ultrasound scan plus internal exam by a Specialist.
ALso, hormonal levels - particularly thyroid levels
What is your height and weight ?
Sometimes - stress, exercise, travelling, late nights, change in season or altitude, even such minor factors can cause some spotting.
So relax.
All the best

I have been going through a stressful period in my life in theaat year and in the last 8 weeks I did go to the doctor and he prescribed me with some beta blockers to take as and when I needed to for my panic attacks.
I am 5ft 4" and weigh about 11st.
I am just really concerned that might be something serious. My periods when I have a break from the pill have been normal.
I just really want some reassurance

RELAX
Detailed Answer:
It is most likely due to the stress and the pill packs being used back to back.
Dont worry.
Just have the workup suggested and that should reassure you when you have normal results.
Take care.
