Posted on Tue, 6 Oct 2015
Question: Doctor, my daughter was diagnosed with Strep Group G. By the time the doctor called me with the results, her fever is gone and her throat feels better. However, she was experiencing a vaginal pain. She has two white spots on her vagina. Could this be related to Strep?

Brief Answer:
Can be folliculitis.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
The vaginal pain and two visible white spots are likely to be due to folliculitis. This may not be related to the throat infection.
This needs an antibiotic and anti inflammatory drug for treatment. They are usually seen in patients who wear tight underclothes or jeans for a long time.
More common in Summers.
Just try to keep the genital area open or in loose clothes for some time each day and drink lots of water.
Doing a hot compress will also help.
Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.

The white spots look more like small ulcers. Not ingrown hairs. They are not in the outside but inside. Her Doctor did a swab test for HSV 1 but my daughter is 100% not sexually active. I think it is a tremendous coincidence that this showed up at the same time as her strep. Also my daughter is celiac. Any other possibilities? I read that strep can also affect the genital tract.

Brief Answer:
Can be a bacterial infection.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
Strep infection can affect genitalia also. If it is like an ulcer then a bacterial infection is likely. A vaginal swab culture will help in diagnosis.
Hope my answer is helpful.
