Posted on Mon, 20 Jul 2015
Question: Hi,
I have been diagnosed with hypothyroid, and my TSH was 111.16
After undergoing Ayurvedic treatment it came down to 11 in 2 weeks time.
I further did undergo multiple tests. In which I found my LIPASE is 75.2 U/L & my Uric acid level is 3.3 & 25-OH VITAMIN D total is 8.69. Please guide me what should I do next.

Brief Answer:
Your vitamin D is very low.

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thank you for asking HCM.

I have gone through your query. Your lipase and uric acid are within normal range.
But vitamin D is very low. You need to take supplements of vitamin D3. Taking vitamin D 1000 IU per day or 8400 IU weekly orally will be helpful for this. Getting sunlight exposure on body when the intensity of sunlight is low like in the evening is good also for getting vitamin D.

TSH of 11 is still high. You can continue your ayurvedic treatment or take thyroxin supplements daily according to allopathy (modern medicine). If taking Thyroxine you can check TSH after taking it for 1 month. Then can correct the dosage if necessary. After this can check in 3 month intervals or as directed by your doctor.

Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear.
Thanks.

Brief Answer:
Taking b complex vitamins will be helpful.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome again.

Thank you for your follow up query.

I have gone through your reports.

Your lipase level is mildly elevated according to the report. But it is not that specific for pancreatitis. Amylase is more specific and it is normal. Do you take alcohol regularly. ? In such case you can go for an ultrasound examination of pancreas and liver to rule out any problems.

Sore tongue can be glossitis associated with B complex vitamin deficiency. Taking B complex vitamins will be helpful for this. Applying gels with choline salicylate like zytee RB gel is helpful also.

Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear.
Thanks.

Hi Dr.

Regarding my elevated lipase is it something to worry about? I never had alcohol in my life. I was a smoker but quit smoking 7 month ago. Do I need to take any precautions w.r.t diet, am a non-vegetarian ( eat Lamb/Goat avoid chicken & Beef).

Thanks

Brief Answer:
As it is mildly elevated not much significant.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome again.

Thank you for your follow up query.

Lipase is mildly elevated according to your laboratory norms. This can even be due to tongue irritation- glossitis. But if you are consuming alcohol regularly, then it can be due to irritation of pancreas which you had previously. But the present lipase level doesn't show any sign to worry. If you have any clinical symptoms like abdominal pain or gastric discomfort then better to go for an ultrasound examination of abdomen to rule out problems with pancreas and liver.

Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear.
Thanks.
