What Causes Vomiting After Drinking Alcohol And Slightly Elevated Bilirubin Level?

default
Posted on Fri, 27 Jun 2014
Question: Good day,

I have the following question.

Half a year ago I did a blood test and it showed that bilirubin is high a bit:
Total bilirubin 23.2 (normal when 5-21)
Direct bilirubin 4.78 (normal when < 3.4)

And yesteray I was sick after alchohol and vomiting was very bitter, which means It contained gall.

Does it mean that I have peoblems with gall bladder and if yes what kind of problems are they?

Thanks,
XXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Suspected fatty liver/alcoholic liver disease...

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX

It is normal to vomit after drinking alcohol. You should take this as a sign that your body is giving to you as it cannot tolerate alcohol (make you sick).

With regards to slightly elevated bilirubin level, it might be due to:
- alcoholic liver disease
- hepatic steatosis (fatty liver, most probably due to alcohol consumption).

With regards to gallbladder problems, they might include:
- inflammation
- stones
- sludge

I should have your liver enzymes levels first before running final conclusions over gallbladder problems.

Hope it answered to your queries! Let me know if I can assist you further!
