Question: I was taking (1) 5mg of oxycodone per day for 10 months due to pain after countless surguries. I went to my primary doctor for help getting off as i was experincing extreme muscel and nerve pain after taking the 1 pill about 24 hours later and was unable to handle the pain i would take the (1) 5mg again. This is all i took never anymore. The doctor prescribed 8mg of suboxone 2 a day. The first time i took the film was 24 hours since my last opiate and within 1 hour i was vomiting severly unable to hold anything down. I called the doctor who prescribed anti nausea med and i am still vomiting it has been almost 48 hours and i am still vomiting. What can be causing this and what should i do?

Brief Answer: drug interactions & gastritis Detailed Answer: Hi, the main reason for vomoting after the drugs you mentioned could be due to 1. the drug sideeffects, 2.increased effect of opioid on the vomiting center in the brain 3. Gastritis To overcome this you will have to take cental and peripheral acting antiemetic along with antacid. These drugs are ondansetron, promethazine, perinorm, ranitidine and esmeprazole. You can ask your GP to prescribe the best combination. To avoid similar problem avoid opioids and shift to acetaminophen for the time being for your pain

Brief Answer: no, its not what you took Detailed Answer: No, by overdose I did not mean that you took a lot of medicine. The medicines you took gets broken into various parts and the end products of the two medicines you took have the same effect on the vomiting center in the brain; that leads to vomiting. Single medicine may not cause vomiting, but two medicines may add on to the effect and cause the vomiting.

I have not been able to eat anything and keep it down. How long will this last?

Brief Answer: it lasts usually till the effect of medicine. Detailed Answer: 2 tablets over 2 days time is not close enough. These effects usually lasts till the effect of medicine. Which usually appx 20 hrs. You must take antiemetic and antacid to curb it. Your local doctor will know about these medicines. Regards
