Posted on Tue, 16 Sep 2014
Question: husband is diabetic type I, last night vomited x 1, chest pain, BP elevated. CAB 6 years ago. He forgot to take BP med yesterday.
Checked BP was 160/88 - gave loading dose aspirin, BS 330. Gave Insulin, BP medicine, Gatorade -within 1 hr all symptoms went away. This morning no symptoms.
Just was seen by cardiologist last week, EKG and labs were all good.

Brief Answer:
Diabetes

Detailed Answer:
In situations like this it is obviously best to seek emergent care. I understand he seems to have settled own now and had a follow up with the cardiologist last week. However, the symptoms have occurred now and merit appropriate evaluation as per your cardiologists' guidance. So check with him or her please.

Regarding blood glucoses, better control is warranted. Type 1 diabetics need well timed and intensive insulin dosing with dynamic adjustments to keep glucoses int he target range. Carbohydrate counting skills are indispensable.

In general, when I see people with type 1 diabetes I make sure that at least once a year I have monitored the following labs :
CBC
CMP
TSH
Free T4
Thyroid autoantibodies
Serum B12 levels
Celiac screen with antibodies
Lipids
Urine albumin to creatinine ratio

I also keep an eye on the HbA1c every 3 months.

There are various tools like Insulin pumps and continuous glucose sensors to help manage this condition better. Ask your endocrinologist if he is a candidate for these

Thank you!! We are seeing his cardiologist at 1030. He has insulin pump, but did not have his sensor on. Ugh husbands!!
A1C averages 5-6.
Thank you for quick response.

It appears that you have inadvertently forgotten to close the query. Until you do so, it remains 'outstanding' on my dashboard, giving the wrong impression to the managers of this forum that I am not answering your follow up queries in a timely manner.
