Question: active oozing of blood was present in the stomach when gastroscopy was done. i was operated for gasstrogegenostomy 40 years back and the ulcer was healed. for the last many years i had no problems. sudenly one day i had vomiting although neither blood nor acid came out. there is no active pain any where except discomfort and lack of apetitite . i am prescribed Nexpro 40. does it mean ulcer has recurred?

Brief Answer:
Could be due to stress gastritis

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to Healthcare-Magic
Greetings of the day

Dear Mr XXXXXXX

Isolated episode of vomiting does not indicate recurrence. Recurrence is rare after 40 years following Gastro-jejunostomy( I assume the exact procedure that would have been done is Gastro-Jejunostomy with Truncal/Selective vagotomy). Vomiting could be due to gastritis, which should respond to Nexpro (which blocks secretion of gastric acid). Even if the symptoms persist inspite of being on medication, a Gastroscopy is warranted.

As I had mentioned gastroscopy was done which showed oozing of blood from stomach. That is why ny query was if ulcer has recurred or the oozing will stop with Nespro tablets meaning there was no recurrence of ulcer. Also please let me know the side effects of nespro as I am having nausia and lossof apetite

Brief Answer:
Nexpro is safe

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Dear Mr XXXXXXX

Nexpro is Esmoprozole which is proton pump inhibitor , inhibiting release of acid. It helps in healing of symptoms of acid peptic disease. It is definitely not the cause for nausea and vomiting. Nexpro is safe and free from significant adverse effects.

It would be helpful if you could provide me the detailed Gastroscopy report , a scanned copy along with images of gastroscopy will be very helpful for me to able to guide you further.

Regards
Deepak
