default
Posted on Fri, 24 Oct 2014
Question: I have a friend who has a diagnosis of "walking dandruff" or mites that are found usually only in animals, (Cheyletiella) possibly( yasguri from dogs, or blakei from cats. She has lost her vision, and her lungs, nose, ears, and other places are full of these mites. They are terribly painful, and she screams in pain often when they become active and move within her body. She has been told there is no treatment for humans who become infected, and we just can't accept that nothing can be done. Please advise. My email is YYYY@YYYY

Brief Answer:
Rule out granulomatous disorder-maggots

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I had gone through your question and understand your concerns.

I see similar cases among st old people who visit my clinic, as such, with your description; I do not think they are mites. Because all mites are tiny creatures, some so small they can be seen only with magnification. The possible creatures could be maggots.

There are so many medical conditions in ear, nose and throat like diabetes, syphilis, rhinospordiasis, wegeners granuloma or fungal granulomas(mucormycosis) welcomes these maggots.

I suggest you to consult ent surgeon and get series of tests to rule out the primary cause and definitive treatment for maggots. If possible take consultation of dermatologist in avoiding those infestations.

Those maggots can be removed manually by instilling turpentine oil. As such she requires,-

First- isolation,
Second-good antibiotic to prevent septicemia and meningitis,
Third- debridement and removal of maggots,
Fourth-debrided tissue for biopsy,
Fifth- good nutrition.

Hope this answers your question, if you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.
Wishing you good health.
