Posted on Fri, 26 Sep 2014
Question: My grandaugter, age 9, complains about her head getting warm, then she feels something pop and it hurts. She says this happens about 3 times a year. An EEG was done which came back normal. What should we do to find out what's wrong. What she feels is not normal in my opinion.

Brief Answer:
Could be migraine

Detailed Answer:
Hi...by what quote I feel that this could be migraine and head getting warm and hurting a lot...fits into migraine.
I have a few questions for you -
1. Does anybody else in the family has migraine?
2. Does she become very irritable and angry during the episode?
3. Has her blood pressure been checked during the doctor's visit?
4. Does she prefer to sleep during the episode and the headache gets better after a good sleep?
5. Does she have any other problem like weakness of the limbs?

Kindly get back with answers to above questions and I will help you.

No one else in the family has migraine. She does not become irritable. Her blood pressure has not been checked by a doctor. She does not sleep during the episode and does not have weakness of the limbs. She just went for a physical a week ago and was told that what she is feeling could be related to her inner ear, but the doctor did not check for this.

Brief Answer:
Could be a migraine still

Detailed Answer:
Hi...I feel this could be a migraine because the history is fitting in classically.

I have these suggestions for you -
1. Get her ears checked by a paediatrician by otoscopy.
2. For her headache you can give Paracetamol. Kindly get back to me with the answers to above questions and also mention his weight so that I can suggest you the formulations which are good. But as of now - you can give oral Paracetamol in the dose of 15mg/kg/dose every 4-6th hourly.
3. Definitely she needs her blood pressure to be checked.

I wish your kid a speedy recovery. If you need any future medical consultation and suggestions, I will be glad to help. You can approach me at the following link. Please find the link below.
