Brief Answer:
Refrigeration not needed.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone carefully through your query and understand your concerns. If the child is on exclusive breast feeding the child does not need to be treated with antibiotics. However, if the child is on mixed feed or formula feed depending on if an infection is suspected, antibiotics can be given. If antibiotics are given it also kills off the beneficial bacteria that reside in our gastrointestinal tract. Vibact oral suspension is a supplementation of those bacteria which can be given. On the other hand, since you have started the antibiotic you should complete the course.

You do not need to refrigerate any of them.

Let me know if I could help further.

I have one more query.when my baby is 3 month old not passed stool for 2 days and misdiagnosed for constipation.my doctor prescribed milk of magnesia and I have given milk of magnesia on alternative days totally 5 days.from that time onwards he was passing runny stool once in a day not seedy but his weight gain is normal and active.I am really concerned about it.please suggest is this normal?
Now my doctor prescribed Drivebact because pus is coming out of ear.before Drivebact he prescribed plain amoxicillin but it not worked.now pus is not coming out but he is taking very less breastfeeding and lethargy all day is it normal? Till now we didn't clean the ear .it is not necessary to clean the ear?

Brief Answer:
Possibly acute suppurative otitis media

Detailed Answer:
For a baby of this age, it is normal to pass stool several times a day or even after each feed. Alternatively the child may pass stool once in 10 days and that is normal too. Unless the stool is hard and pellet like, you need not grow concerned. It is also normal to pass green stool or a combination of yellow stool. The green colour occurs due to rapid transit through large intestine where the bile pigments do not get adequate time to convert to the yellow colour of stool. It is also normal to pass green stool or a combination of yellow stool.

I do not think that antibiotics or Drivebact are needed. What is already normal cannot be normalized further. I am saying this in relation to the stool.

However, in case there is pus discharge from the ear, topical antibiotics (Antibiotic ear drops) should be more helpful. Additionally, you need to give steam inhalation to your child. It helps in reducing the congestion. Just sit with your child on your lap and place the source of steam before you. The water vapor will be in the air and automatically the child will breathe it in. Water vapor will reach deep inside and would help in diluting the thickened mucus which is blocking the Eustachian tube (a tube connecting between inner throat and middle ear - on either side) and should help in resolution of the acute infection (called ASOM or acute suppurative otitis media). However, since you have already started oral antibiotics it should be a good idea to complete the course.

As of now clear the ear discharge with a wet cotton swab.

Brief Answer:
You need not give milk of magnesia

Detailed Answer:
As I have already mentioned, a course of antibiotics kills off the beneficial bacteria and therefore can lead to loose stools. Milk of magnesia can also loosen the stools. I do not think that you need to give it any further. Continue giving Vibact for a couple of days more but do not expect the loose stools to stop immediately.
