What Causes Weakness And Tremors After Taking Nexito?

Posted on Thu, 23 Jul 2015
Question: My mother who is 83 years old was taking nexito 20 mg+revitrol for a month during which time her depression got only slighly better but she was growing steadily weaker and had tremors. A month later it was reduced to 10 mg+revitrol and the weakness increased. So we went to a different psychologist who has now put her on lopez 2 and asked us to also see neurologist. After 4 days of lopez we found her tremors had decreased and she had become stronger.
We went and saw the neuro and he said she had mild parkinsonian features. He put her on pramipex .125. The first day she was ok. The second day the tremors have started and she is finding it difficult to walk.
We want to take her off pramipex .125 after 2 days. Is it ok ?
The CT scan says no significant abnormality detected. Chronic ischaemic changes in periventicular white matter

Brief Answer:
It is Ok to stop pramipax in her case

Detailed Answer:
Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries

I can understand your concern. She is 83 years old and was on 20 mg Escitalopram which is really a high dose. Later dose was reduced to 10 mg per day and weakness increased. Later she was shown to a neurologist and she was given Pramipex 0.125 mg per day. Her CT came normal except chronic periventricular ischaemic changes.

First of all I'd tell you that it is ok to stop the Pramipax 0.125 since she is taking the drug for 2 days only. No need to fear. Call her doctor before making any changes in her prescription if possible.

Her all investigations came normal. She was on high dose of Escitalopram considering her age and this is the probable reason she developed tremors. In my opinion tremors will improve in some time without any significant intervention spontaneously, no need for medicines. She has responded to Lopez and low doses of this drug can be used without any fear.

Thanks, Hope this helps you. If you have more doubts please ask again.

Take care
