I have gone through your question and understand your concerns.
Weakness and balance problems at this age may be due to myopathy or neuropathy or some brain atrophy related changes.
Few answers will help to get to a diagnosis.
1) weakness is more while standing from squatting position or during walking
2) Any sensory loss in lower limbs
3) Any urinary complains
4) Any back pain
5) Any neck pain
6) Headache, vomiting, memory loss, seizure, loss of consciousness, visual loss, behavioural changes
