What Causes Weight Gain And Increased Breast Size Inspite Of Being On Depo Provera?

default
Posted on Mon, 29 Dec 2014
Question: I have been on the depo provera injection for 9 years and have not had periods for 8 years. I have never had any problems with the injection and do not experience any symptoms of hormonal changes. I am always on time with getting the injection. For the past 2 weeks I have been experiencing weight gain, an abnormal increase in breast size, sore breasts, nausea and extreme fatigue. I have taken 2 home pregnancy tests which have both been negative. What could be causing these symptoms? I am 25 years old.

Brief Answer:
Increase in progesterone might cause these symptoms

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I read your query and I understand your concerns.

Following is my reply:

1) These are not symptoms of pregnancy alone as you are thinking. Such symptoms can also occur in other conditions like variation of progesterone hormone.

2) These are due minor increase in progesterone hormone in your body which causes these symptoms..

3) Let me reassure you that these are temporary and will go off in next one week and you will be fine.

Let me know if you have anymore questions.
