Posted on Tue, 13 Oct 2015
Question: I wonder if I have a thyroid problem. Symptoms are: weight gain/inability to lose weight, excessive sweating and feeling hot and clamp when others around me are cold, hair thinning, dizzy/vertigo, change in voice which I feel deep inside my throat, heart palpitations. This has been going on for a few months, at least. Could you please suggest what the problem might be? Thank you!

Brief Answer:
detailed below.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.

Welcome to Healthcare Magic.

I read carefully your query.

The symptoms your describe can be related to a thyroid condition.Weight gain ,hair thinning, dry skin ,fatigue, unusual tiredness and sleepiness ,increased intolerance to cold, heart palpitations ,hoarse voice are typical symptoms of Hypothyroidism.

You need to get some tests done:
-Complete blood count
-Blood sugar
-Thyroid function tests: fT3 , fT4 and TSH
If you have Hypothyroidism ( thyroid gland produces less thyroid hormones ) then most likely TSH will be high and fT3,fT4 will be low.

Since these symptoms have been there for few months ,I would suggest to consult a physician and get the tests done.

Hope it helps.
Please feel free to ask for every question you might have.

Kind regards,
Dr.Rovena Murati
