What Causes Weight Loss And Breathing Difficulty When Having A Lung Nodule?

default
Posted on Wed, 2 Apr 2014
Question: My mom is having surgery tomorrow. She is having a 'nodule' on her lung removed (and then a biopsy). She has been in and out/lots of tests....but not getting better. She's also having fluid removed from her lung (third time now). She is losing weight, difficulty breathing and has really 'no' energy. What should I know, verify, ask, of the doctor when he comes in later today? Thank you.

Brief Answer: Have a faith... Detailed Answer: Hi. Welcome to healthcaremagic.com and thank you for posting your question. I have gone through your question carefully and understand how troubled and worried you are, I feel sorry to learn about your mother's situation. Well with the history you have provided - Nodule on the lung to be removed, Pleural tapping -removal of the fluid thrice Loosing weight difficulty in breathing no energy... All suggest to me that this is a chronic disease ( almost a year you say). Your query: know, verify, ask::: Will your Mother withstand the surgery well? Will she be out of anesthesia and breathing normally without ventilator support? How to take care of the patient? Is only the nodule OR the lobe containing the nodule is being removed? Will they go for a frozen section to confirm the nature of the nodule on table (possible only if they have the facility, many centers may not have)? Permit them in writing to go ahead with more extensive surgery, if that is decided on table on looking the real nature of the disease. This is always a Pandora's Box and there can be unexpected irrespective of previous investigation, and believe me- all the Doctors , Surgeons in particular are always taking the decisions in the best favor of the patient's well-being. Please ASK your Doctor to do the best. Wish your Mother and Doctor the best luck. Hope this answers your question, please ask me if you need any further clarifications. Wishing your mother all the very best and a safe surgery. Kind regards.
