What Causes Weight Loss And Decreased Appetite After LINX Procedure For Hiatus Hernia?

default
Posted on Tue, 26 Sep 2017
Question: Yes! Please help! I had a LINX implanted and hiatal hernia repair in Feb. Since then I have felt awful! I have lost 20 lbs. I have no appetite and foods don't taste good. My skin has gotten very dry and crepy. I am very tired and I feel like the food that I am consuming is not being absorbed. (nutrients). I have had symptoms of serotonin syndrome and without help...have stopped taking all meds that I was on before because I discovered that one med was for the symptoms of the first. (Cymbalta). Where to go and what to do to find what is going on in my gut??

Brief Answer:
I will advice you to get tested for titanium allergy

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for using Healthcaremagic.

First of all I like to inform you that LINX procedure for hiatus hernia can not explain all the problems encountered by you after the surgery. There must be something which is related to surgery but not the procedure itself.

Although I do not have any clue about what is going on but I feel you need to get tested for titanium allergy. The titanium allergy is rare but it is reported and there are some similar instances after the titanium implant. The same need to be discussed with your treating doctor.

I hope this helps you.
Feel free to write back to me if you have more questions.
Thanks and regards.

I have been tested and that isn't the problem. I have discussed this with the dr. he said to take probiotics. That isn't the answer! I was tested for the titanium by a different dr.

next suggestion?

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXX,
Thanks for follow up.

I am glad to know that titanium allergy is not the cause for the problem and this is great respite.

However I have no other clues what could be wrong but I feel doing following may help you.

1. First get tested for thyroid function if not already done as many of the symptoms currently present can be due to thyroid abnormality such as dry skin, loss of weight and tiredness.

2. Get tested for celiac disease.

I hope this helps you.

Thanks again.

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXX,
Thanks for follow up.

Although as stated above no cause can be ascertained on the basis of limited information but it is possible that it is just coincidence rather than anything else.

Unless we investigate one by one assigning cause for the current problem is impossible.

I hope this answers you.
Thanks again.
