Posted on Thu, 30 Jun 2016
Question: Hi. I just want to know if this barely visible white thing on my tongue is hpv or herpes? I just noticed it after biting my tongue 2 days ago.It is a little bit painful. I also have never given oral sex before. I only had protected vaginal sex and received oral sex. And will a kiss on the lips spread herpes or hpv virus?

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Welcome and thanks for posting your query to the forum.

I can understand your concern for the whitish lesions over your tongue. After diligently examining the area in the picture let me reassure you that it has got no relationship with any of the sexually transmitted infections including herpes or HPV.

This is just small area related to trauma of the central incisors over the tongue area. Your history of tongue biting directly correlates with the same. It is common appearance after trauma to the tongue where due to mild inflammation the area can get small whitish lesions. This kind of lesions gets healed within 7 days. If the trauma continues then it can form ulceration which can take around 10 to 14 days.

For the part of kiss on the lips spread herpes or HPV virus: It can only spread if there are cuts or active bleeding or oozing in both the partners. Most of the STDs spread through mixing of fluids from infected to non infected person. So if it is dry kiss then there are no chances of spread of any of these STDs.

Hope this information will help you.
