What Causes Whitish Vaginal Discharge With Swollen Groin Lymph Nodes?

default
Posted on Fri, 26 Dec 2014
Question: Please review picture and give me an idea as to what is wrong with me! So anxious! Many white bumps, some appear to be raised some are not. White discharge...it is about three days before my expected period. But it seems I always have this most of the time. Possible bilateral swollen groin lymph nodes. Some pain and itching in vulva...but not all the time. I go and see a doc on the 19th but maybe you can shed some light as to what I should expect.

Brief Answer:
Need some help from you first ma'am

Detailed Answer:
Hello ma'am and welcome.

Thank you for writing to us.

I have gone through your query with diligence and would like you to know that I am here to help. Based on the images provided and the symptoms described, I would like your kind response to a few questions ma'am:

+Are you sexually active? If yes, have you been active all through the presence of these symptoms?
+Is your sexual partner a known person? If yes, do you know their sexual history?
+Have you been tested for any STDs in the past? If yes, could you share the results with me?

In my opinion, based on your response the current list of possible causes include:

+Sexually transmitted infection
+Urinary tract infection (UTI)
+Fungal/yeast infection

In the meantime, please make sure you follow a few of my suggestions:

+Avoid sexual contact in all forms
+Drink plenty of water
+Make sure you change your inner garments or sanitary pads (if you choose to wear any due to the discharge) every 3 hours or so
+Make sure you shower every day
+Drink cranberry juice as tolerated

I look forward to hearing from you in order to reach a more accurate diagnosis, but for now please make sure you visit your doctor at the earliest for the following:

+Urine culture and sensitivity test
+STD panel
+Vaginal swab test

Best wishes ma'am.

I was sexually active from October 1st to the 4th with a gentleman I am seeing. He told me he was clean. The white bumps I was told were plugged subaceous glands.I do not know if I had them when I was with the aforementioned gentleman. I was also told i have fordyce spots as well...more than most. Iwas tested for STD's last September due to exteme vaginal itching and yellow vaginal dishcarge. I was tested for Clahmydia, gonorrhea, syphlis and trich. Also, I believe for HPV as well. The test came back poitive for trich, because of an unfaithful boyfriend, which has since cleared. In February I had a blocked bartholin gland which developed into a cyst on the right side of my clitoris. I thought this might be herpes, it was swabbed and came back negative. I was tested negative for HIV around March and April. I tested negative for herpes in September of this year. The white discharge is thin and doesn't appear to smell. I don't recall having it until after the encounter with the gentleman I am seeing. I have had zero sexual encounters since. I am very worried as I've had an STI before and really do not, of course, want another one. I am very distraught.

Brief Answer:
STD more likely, but need to rule out/confirm

Detailed Answer:
Hello once again XXXXXXX

Thank you so much for the detailed response.

The main aspect of your response that I would like to emphasize on is your statement "I don't recall having it until after the encounter with the gentleman I am seeing."

This means that there is a high chance of this being an STI and so I would request the same investigations mentioned in my previous response. Although, even urinary tract infections and yeast infections are both still possible after sexual contact it would best to check for all the suggested possibilities and rule out/confirm one.

If at all you can visit a clinic or laboratory without having to visit a doctor, then request for the following investigations and write back to me with the results or paste them to our discussion for my review ma'am. They are:

+Urine culture and sensitivity test
+STD panel
+Vaginal swab test

I understand your anxiety ma'am, but please do not worry and lets hope for nothing but the best. Also, please make note of my suggestions from my previous response and try to follow them strictly. If at all it is possible to get in touch with this gentlemen who may have been the source of your infection (symptoms), politely request him to get tested. May be we can then tally his and your diagnosis to learn more.

I hope you find my responses helpful. Please do not hesitate to write to me about anything, I am always here to help you.

Best wishes ma'am.

What STD do you suspect? A curable one I hope. Bacterial Vaginosis can produce a thin white discharge can it not? I can't help but worry. I do not have a walk in clinic or anything of the sort in my community. I go see someone on the 19th. I have been anxious and hyper sensitve to any sort of sensations my vagina has since the unfortunate incident with the trich. Not to sound too dramatic, but I will definitely have more trust issues becausd of this. I'm pretty upset.

Brief Answer:
Do not take this too seriously, such things happen

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX

I understand how this must be devastating and how it can lead to trust issues. But taking up my doctor duties I would say that this is good in a way, as it can help prevent possibly serious threats in the futire. But being more of a friend than a doctor, do make sure you do not take this too seriously and stop enjoying life to the fullest.

As for possibilities, a whitish discharge can be the most commonly seen, and so causes can be:
+Yeast infections
+Almost all sexually transmitted infections like chlamydia, gonorrhea, etc.
+Trichomoniasis
+Pelvic inflammatpry diseases (PID)
+Bacterial vaginosis
+Medication use (e.g. steroids, antibiotics, etc)
+Birt control pills
And a few other less common causes.

I wish you could have had a walk-in clinic somewhere, this would have made things much easier for me. And we ciuld have gotten rid of your infection by the 19th. Unfortunately I cannot do anything about this, and can only write to you as and when you need me.

Try to get in touch with the partner who could have caused this and see if he can get tested any earlier. Please also avoid sexual contact or masturbation until I tell you its safe.

Do not be disheartened, such things happen and I am sure this is nothing too serious. A short course of medications advised depending on the infection-causing organism should more than suffice to help rid you of your symptoms and the infection. Write to me anytime ma'am, I am your doctor anf friend, you can trust me.

Best wishes.

Thank you for being kind. I appreciate it. I dont think I will be able to follow up with you as i only have three days to post bew knformatio and my appointment is not until the 19th. I really hope its just BV and the occasional itchiness and twinges of pain is due to folliculitis, something I already have. I have suspected that I coild have something, again, but will keep my fingers crossed that it is not a STD or STI. You are very caring and must be one hell of a Doctor

Thank you again,

XXXXXXX

It is my pleasure entirely

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX

Thank you so much for the kind words, I really appreciate it. And if at all we lived in the same area, I would have certainly called you in immediately to make sure we provide you relief without further ado.

I hope this is nothing serious as well, and my fingers are crossed, or at the worst is BV which is easily treatable. Follow my instructions from my first response and before the last response you post to me, upload another clear picture of your genitalia so I can examine it once again and provide you with my response on whether or not things have changed for the better (hopefully not the worse).

My best wishes are always with you XXXXXXX and I look forward to hearing good news from you informing me about your complete recovery soon.

God bless.

Good morning XXXXXXX

Its morning on my side at least. :)

Sore hips and mood fluctuations could be due to a hormonal imbalance that can easily be caused by the infection, or this could just be your soon-approaching period.

I am glad I could be of assistance XXXXXXX I am just a doctor with a degree without my patients, with them I am complete. Although I hope and pray all my patients report to me with good health and nothing more.

Keep in touch XXXXXXX as mentioned my Facebook page is on my profile page on this forum. Click on it and you can get in touch with me anytime.

Wishing you nothing but good health now and forever.
