What Causes Withdrawal Bleeding After Taking I-pill?

default
Posted on Mon, 28 Dec 2015
Question: My period began the 11th and I had to take the morning after pill on the 22nd a few hours after incident. I threw it up and took another one as advised by pharmacist. It's been 6 days now and I have had no withdrawal bleed. I took the morning after pill years ago and I got a bleed on the 5th day. Does no withdrawal bleed mean it hasn't worked. I'm so worried.

Brief Answer:
No need to worry.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,
Thanks for trusting hcm about your health care.
I have gone through your history and understand your concerns.
Withdrawal bleeding is only a side effect of i-pill or morning after pill and not occur in every patient.
So if you had no withdrawal bleeding that does not mean the drug is not working.
Hope found useful, feel free to discuss more information.
Good luck.

Thank you for your answer. But the fact I got a withdrawal bleed the last time I took it would that not mean I should get a withdrawal bleed this time?
doctor

Brief Answer:
No it is not always same.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Sorry for the delay in my response.
No it is not necessary that you had withdrawal bleeding this time also as you had it previously.
It may occur or may not.
You should wait and watch for your menses.

Thank you. I have another question. Yesterday and today I've started experiencing menstrual cramps. Pretty mild so far and no blood. My period is not due until the 11th. Am I experiencing implantation cramps or could my period be coming this early due to morning after pill. I'm truly sorry for all the questions it's just I'm going out of my mind with worry. What are the chances of pregnancy with taking the pill within 24 hours.

Answered by Dr. Richa Agarwal (2 hours later)
Brief Answer:
Period maybe coming early.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,
You are always welcome to ask questions as many as you have.
These menstrual cramps are most likely due to side effect of morning pill and could be due to beginning of your menses.
The chances of pregnancy is only 4-5% after taking morning pill within 24 hrs.( so almost nil).
Hope found useful, feel free to discuss more information.
Good luck.

Hello doctor. I still have mild cramps and breast tenderness but still no bleeding. So confused. Should i test. Or is it to early to test since my period not due for another week?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Richa Agarwal (3 hours later)
Brief Answer:
No use of test right now.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,
I can understand your anxiety and concerns but this is not the right time to do test.
To rule out pregnancy it is better to do a home urine pregnancy test 7 days after missed period date.
You can go for blood beta hcg testing near your expected period date.
So you should not do any testing right now, wait and watch for your menses.

Good luck.
