I have gone through your query and I have understood it

Xerosis is a term used for dryness of skin. The basic underlying factor being reduced water retentive capacity of the skin.

Common causes of Xerosis or dry skin include:
- Atopic dermatitis/Atopy. In atopic dryness is more of a concern in cold and dry weather of winters;
- Icthyoses (genetic e.g icthyosis vulgaris as well as acquired);
- Vitamin deficiencies;
- Various underlying diseases like Hypothyroidism, Diabetes Mellitus etc., can also be causes of Xerosis.
- Certain malignancies like lymphomas can also present with severe dryness of skin.
- Ageing is also a cause of Xerosis; people in old age frequently complain of dry skin as compared to when they were young.

Management of Xerosis is symptomatic i.e regular use of moisturisers and correction of underlying disease e.g hypothyroidism
