Posted on Mon, 13 Oct 2014
Question: My wife and I had sex during her ovulation. She took I-pill within the next 10 hour after the intercourse. Its been 5 days she took the I Pill now. She is now getting a yellowish mucus for past 2. What does that mean? Will she get her menses soon?

Brief Answer:
EFFECT OF I-PILL. SIGN OF WITHDRAWAL BLEEDING.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for writing to us.

According to your information, it is MOSTLY suggestive of side effects of the I-pill. It indicates that she will get a withdrawal bleeding like period very soon.

I suggest her to await few more days to get this bleeding and maintain genital hygiene properly to avoid unwanted infection.

Hope, it helps for your information. Kindly, close the discussion if you don't have any other query.

Wish her good health and practice safe sex in future.

Regards,
Dr S Patra

Brief Answer:
WITHIN 5-10 DAYS MOSTLY.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for writing to us.

Withdrawal bleeding occurs within 5 to 10 days after taking the pill among most women. I suggest her to wait another 5 days to get period naturally.

Hope, I have cleared your doubt. Kindly, close the discussion.

Its already 8 days since she tool the i-pill. Does that mean that we should wait for her menses to come naturally?

Her expected date for her menses was supposed to be today? Is it normal that she is late?

Brief Answer:
AWAIT FEW MORE DAYS TO GET NORMAL PERIOD.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for query.

1) Yes, she would await for natural period as her due date is nearby. I-pill can cause late period for 1 to 2 weeks due to hormonal imbalance. Stress factor is another reason.

2) I suggest her to await up to 1 week from today to get period naturally. If she doesn't get it by this time, she must undergo one home home pregnancy test to clear doubt.

3) Lastly, I suggest her to take REGULAR COMBINED pill (after getting period) instead of emergency pill. It will give more than 99% protection after 1-month used and she will also get regular monthly period. Kindly, consult with her doctor for prescription.

Hope, I have answered your query. If you have any other query, you can directly ask me at any time.
