Question: Hi, i started to notice a yellowish coating on the back of my tongue when i was 5 weeks pregnant. I have a very dry mouth and a metallic taste but it's not causing any pain. Could this be oral thrush and is this common during pregnancy?

Brief Answer:
Oral thrush likely.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
The yellowish coating that you have is likely to be due to oral thrush. The metallic taste is also due to the thrush. The dryness of mouth can be one of the reasons of thrush. You need to increase your fluid intake to avoid. It is not related to pregnancy but proper treatment is needed if it is recurrent.
Stick to bland foods and mouthwash without alcohol to minimize symptoms. Vitamin B-Complex supplements also helps in faster healing.
Try having citrus juices, lemonade and foods marinated in vinegar. They not only break through the taste, but also help in saliva production that helps in washing away the metallic taste. Every time you brush your teeth, make sure to brush your tongue also.
Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
Wishing you good health.
