Question: last saturday i had to go to emergency for a bowel obstruction in my rectum the Dr, on call had to manually clean it out. very painful and embarrassing. then i drank a bowel loosening syrupy liquid. which made what was left inside me explode out of me. Now home, My bowels are slowly getting back to normal. I;m just eating fruit, avocados, lettuce, soups with veg., clam chowder, simple stuff. but now, when i get up and walk beyond 10 feet I get weak, and dizzy, and tired. Barely got muself back into my car and drive myself home. What could be causing this. My heart was fine when they checked it out ?

Brief Answer:
Severe electrolyte imbalance due to use of osmotic laxative.

Detailed Answer:

Hello and thanks for contacting us for your query my dear patient,

Have gone through your details and i appreciate your concerns,
The bowel loosening syrup you were given was very likely polyethylene glycol. Its a osmotic laxative. With every motion you are going to lose a large amount of electrolytes in your body namely sodium potassium and chloride. This would result in severe fatigue lassitude and malaise.Just taking gatorade is not going to help.Take medicated formulation like oral rehydration solution or Electral(over the counter).Drink it one glass every hour.
If possible get your serum electrolytes checked up in laboratory.
Along with it take lots of orange juice and natural coconut water.
Meat bread etc is ok but basically try to replete your electrolytes.
Please follow the suggestions you would start feeling better by tomorrow.
Are stools yet watery or loose?
Waiting for reply.
Regards.

I am able to go. after a cup of coffee the first time after my problem, it stimulated my colon and i did a little someting 7 times but each time it was the size of my baby finger. It was soft. will my colon return to normal function or will they always stay small ? Or are they supposed to be this size ? I'M very thankful for your experience and advice. I NEVER want to have this problem again.
