Question : Hi. I have worsening Dry mouth and Dry throat. No amount of hydration works and even drinking a large glass of water has no effect. Essentially I have that feeling in my mouth and throat, that most people would get upon waking up ie having not hydrated for 8 - 10 hours. My throat also feels like it is narrowing and I do get hiccups often whilst eating and can have water diverted "going down the wrong way" and ending up becoming inhaled into the windpipe or lungs. This ends in a hefty coughing fit.

Hii. Welcome to the health care services. You need to visit an ent surgeon and get an endoscopy of the larynx done to see if there is any abnormality of your wind pipe and if water is going through the wind pipe or not. With the help of endoscopy any abnormality in the wind pipe can be seen. You may need to do a gastroscopy to see your food pipe but it need to to be done by a Gastroenterologist. For dry mouth drink more water. Eat more lemons, fruits , vitamin c rich fruits. If it is not resolving after eating fruits you need to visit any physician because autoimmune disorders of the salivary glands can cause dryness of the mouth.
