Question : Hello Doctor,
Could you please let us know your views / observations about the current status of my wife's reports
Age: 31 yrs 10 months
LMP: 02 XXXXXXX 2018
UPT: Positive (on 07 July 2018)
Beta HCG: 148089 mIU/mL (07 July 2018, 03:15 pm)
Beta HCG: 221085 mIU/mL (09 July 2018, 03:15 pm)
Reports attached for the above two readings.
Beta HCG values seems to be very high compared to the reference range . What could be the reason? Is this of a concern?
The rate of growth in 48 hours is roughly 50%, which seems to be less than the expected normal growth. What could be the possible reasons?
Please let us know in case of any complications.
Thanks in advance,
Best Regards,

Brief Answer:
Transvaginal ultrasound advised
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Beta hCG values are normal for a 5-6 weeks pregnancy which was the gestational period at the time of sampling.
However, the beta hCG levels should double in 48 hours.
If the increase is less than 65%, then it can be a ectopic pregnancy.
A transvaginal ultrasound is advised tomorrow to confirm the location and timing of the pregnancy.
Hope you found the answer helpful.
