What Could Cause A Hard Knot And Pain On The Foot Along With Increasing Pain While Extending The Foot?

Question: Yesterday, around 1800, I, all of a sudden, had a pain on the top of my foot. About two-three hours prior I had taken a walk (about a half mile to the sore) and was fine. But now my foot hurts. After I got home I took off my boot (I wear boots for work) and realized I have a little hard knot on top of my foot. I hoped it would go down at night but it did not, and it had a dull ache through the night. If I place my foot flat on the floor and lift my toes up it hurts more and it hurts more when I extend my foot (pointed my toes). I am concerned because this came out of no-where.

Hi,

It is possible that is a ganglion or fluid filled cyst from the tendon of the muscle.

Do get an ultrasound scan to confirm. Apply warm packs to the affected area. If it is affecting your activities of daily living or recently grown in size you can get it removed by a surgeon.
