Question : Hi I'm a 44 year old female. Today I have been experiencing a strange muscle like spasm in pelvic area near uterus towrds center. It's brief only lasting a few seconds when it happens and mildly painful. I am in the second part of my cycle should be getting my period next week. I have also been told I have IBS. There is no vaginal bleeding or spotting and the area is not tender when pressed. What could be cause of pain?
I had some pelvic pain last summer though it was more of a pinching type pain than a cramp or spasm like now. I had ultrasounds done at the time everything was normal. No difficulty urinating and constipation from time to time. Normal menses

Hello,
Thanks for trusting us at 'Ask a Doctor' service about your healthcare. I have gone through your history and understood your concern.
This pain could be a sign of starting of your menses or it could be due to endometriosis or constipation but before giving my opinion about it, I want to ask few questions regarding your symptoms.
Is the pain is associated with any other symptom?
Has it happened before also?
Are you having any constipation or difficulty in urination?
Are you doing any heavy exercises or anything else?
Have you done your investigations?
I hope to hear from you soon. Good luck.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thank you for the reply.
If your ultrasound was normal and you are not having any other symptoms. It could be due to muscle pain and an indication of the starting of menses.
You should go for MRI pelvis to rule out the other causes of your pain.
I hope you found this useful. Feel free to ask more information. Good luck.
