Brief Answer:
It may be part of an allergic response

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

Based on the symptoms mentioned, you seem to have allergies. The cold would cause these symptoms but they would last only a short period of time, usually less than 2 weeks.

Allergies are the other cause of these type of symptoms. In some cases, the exact allergen causing the problem is not known or it is difficult to figure out what it may be. If you wish to definitely know, you would have to consider allergy tests.

Treatment would consist of anti histamine/decongestant combination even if there is no nasal congestion along with a nasal spray. The anti histamine/decongestant combination helps reduce the sneezing and the secretions to the back of the throat (called post nasal drip).

Post nasal drip is one of the most common reasons for a persistent cough. Eg of anti histamine/decongestant combinations are Zyrtec-D, Allegra-D, Claritine-D and Benadryl-D. Nasal sprays include Flonasa, Rhinocort, Nasocort etc.

It can unfortunately sometimes take up to 2 weeks for the medication to have an effect, must be used consistently.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.
