What Could Cause Frenulum Tear With Blood Discharge?

default
Posted on Fri, 9 Jan 2015
Question: Hi.. Firstly, I'm not sure what to call the nerve connecting the glans and the foreskin. I'll call it the penile nerve for now. So while having sexual intercourse, it became painful and I noticed blood coming out of the penis. Then I immediately retracted my foreskin but I wasn't able to pull it down again as there was intense pain in the penile nerve. The nerve seemed too swollen and I'm afraid that the nerve could have broken. Also the glans was red. Please help.

Brief Answer:
probably frenulum tear.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome to HCM forum.
Thanks for posting to us

I have gone through your query and understand your concern.

The structure connecting foreskin and penis is actually a sot tissue band called frenulum, and not a nerve. From your history it seems like you have got teared this structure.
This can be treated with antibiotics (to prevent secondary infection)and a analgesics for 5 to 7 days. If the wound is only superficial, we can manage with topical antibiotics like mupirocin or povidone iodine. Otherwise oral antibiotics also will be needed; rarely,if too deep one or two sutures also may be needed.

So kindly see your doctor for evaluation and treatment accordingly.
Meanwhile keep the area clean and dry.
Avoid sexual intercourse till full healing.

Hope I have answered your query.
Be free time to ask further questions if any.
Wishing for a faster recovery.
Thank you.

Kindly let me know the medicines' names that I should take. Also I'm too scared to pull the foreskin back to expose the glans as it pains a lot. Even otherwise, there is pain. Please suggest

Brief Answer:
Take analgesics and report to doctor without delay

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX

For pain, you can take analgesics like Ibuprofen 400 mg once, followed by thrice daily after food with one full glass of water.
Avoid pulling back forcefully as it may cause bleeding that is difficult to control.

Kindly reach your doctor/emergency room without delay for wound exploration and assessment.

Take care .
Thank you.
