Question : The past two nights I have had some droplets coming from my left breast, sometimes with blood. It increases slightly as I take a warm shower, but doesn't last long. There is no pain or tenderness. I did breastfeed my son 40 years ago, but have had no other breast surgery. I had a broken rib in an auto accident in 1991. I am a 69 year old woman, taking pravastatin, lisinopril, metoprolol, and alendronate sodium to deal with high blood pressure, high cholesterol and osteoporosis. The medications keep my conditions under control. I have not had any postmenopausal hormone treatments, although I took birth control pills for a while before my son was born. I had a mammogram in February - no indication of breast cancer. I just made an appointment to see my primary care physician April 9, but wonder if I should get more immediate attention at the Quick Care.

Brief Answer:
Quick care if there are signs of inflammation, redness, pain or pus

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

Thanks for an elucidate history. Please do a self examination for any lump under the nipple, areola, breasts and axillae (armpits) and let me know.

Since Mammography in February was normal, I do not think of anything much to worry about. Droplets with blood from the left breast definitely gives alarm and should undergo the relevant clinical evaluation, examination, ultrasonography to make sure again that there is nothing serious to worry about.

If there is local inflammation, redness, pus or pain then it would be advisable to seek immediate medical attention at quick care. Otherwise, consultation with PCP can be done as planned.

I hope this answer helps you.

Take care.
