Question : For the last two months or so I have been experiencing some unusual random swelling of my lips, excessive itching of the palms of my hands and sole of my feet. I thought it was maybe some XXXXXXX in my clothing or perfume that I had begun using. However, I avoided those for several weeks and am still experiencing these things. The swelling of my lips bother and scares me the most. Just random and out of nowhere. Each time Benadryl has helped reduce the swelling. I have never had any allergies that I am aware of my entire life. I am a 39 year old XXXXXXX XXXXXXX female.

Hello,

Since you are experiencing swelling of lips along with itching, the diagnosis is an allergic reaction. I see that you have been trying to avoid several possible triggers.

However, food allergy is an important possibility that has to be ruled out. If you are on any medications or supplements, then allergy to them should also be considered. You can develop the allergy to anything anytime, that did not cause you any problem before.

The most common foods that cause allergy include eggs, nuts, shellfish etc. Try avoiding any particular food, supplements that can be a possible trigger. It can be very difficult to identify possible triggering factor without allergy testing. Please be advised to follow up with your primary care provider to undergo allergy testing.

Meanwhile, you can continue taking the Benadryl to reduce the lip swelling and itching.
