Brief Answer:
Can be due to spondylottic changes.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

Thanks for posting your query at 'Ask a Doctor' service.

At the age of 73, the pain in the lower back can be related to ankylosing spondylosis or herniated discs in the lower spine. The pain in the knees can be due to osteoarthritic changes in the joints. This needs an MRI scan of the spine and the knee to find out the extent of changes that his joints have undergone so that a proper treatment can be started. Mild pain killers and Volini spray or the massage oils can provide a short term relief till then. Regular physiotherapy according to the severity of the problem can help.

I hope this answers your query. In case you have additional questions or doubts, you can forward them to me, and I shall be glad to help you out. Wishing you good health.

Regards,

Hello Doctor,

Can you prescribe some vitamins or pain killers until we move out of this COVID-19 situation and then I can definitely get the MRI done as suggested.

Details below.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

Thanks for writing again.

To take care of the pain, he can start with Tab Ibuprofen 600 mg twice a day after meals. In case the pain is acute then a muscle relaxant like Tolagin twice a day may be needed in addition to Ibuprofen.

He can also start with joint lubricant supplements like Cartigen Duo twice a day after meals.

Hope my answer is helpful. Do accept my answer in case there are no further queries.
