Question: First thing when I get up from laying down or sleeping is throat restricts my breathing and thick mucus forms also restricting breathing and swallowing. Next starts my left neck muscles behind ear tightening. Then my right neck muscles pull my head down to right and pull my right shoulder up.This causes more contractions on left neck muscles and lots more pain on left side, the right side of neck is just uncomfortable. Left side now gets so bad it prevents me turning head to left unless I lay down for a little bit first.
When I lay down all the symptoms go away. XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Parkinson and neck dystonia.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
It looks like you are suffering from dystonia, parkinsonism.
it may result as first sign of parkinsonism or as complication.
Anticholinergic medications (such as trihexyphenidyl or benztropin) and levodopa may improve both conditions .
Other medications such as muscle relaxants or antispastic agents may also treat dystonia. In addition, physicians may prescribe botulinum toxin injections.
Also physiotherapy can help you feel better and support other therapies.

You can fix an appointment to neurologist.
Take care.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Why does my symptoms all go away when I lay down, bend over or move around at a quick pace?

My Acupuncturist says I have a C1 Vertebra that is binding up and may be the cause of some if not most of the problems. He and my chiropractor do not know why my symptoms go away when I lay down.

Thanks for your time, XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
parasympathetic stops dystonia

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear. Sometimes distonia stop when muscles are fatigued and this may be a correlation. The nerves in this area of the neck are known to provide for blood supply to the head, the pituitary gland, the scalp, the bones of the face, the brain, the inner and middle ear, and the sympathetic nervous system. With the activisation of parasympathic the dystonia goes and muscles relax.
