Question : Hi, over the past week or so, when I sit down the top of my bum feels sore. I thought it was because my jeans we're digging into me when I say down, but when I checked it was red and surrounded by a small amount of dry mucus. There's also a slight bump there, but I'm unsure if that's normal

Your symptoms seem to be related to hemorrhoids.
A physical examination is necessary to confirm the diagnosis.
Some advices that I can give to you are :
-Use an over the counter hemorrhoid cream for local relief
-Use pads that contains witch XXXXXXX
-soak in worm water for 15 minutes
If you don't get better service a gastrologist for further treatment.
