Brief Answer:
Several possible causes

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

There can be many causes for sudden vertigo, followed by vomiting and identifying the exact cause requires knowledge of the medical history of the person. The most important cause to rule out as a first step is a heart problem. Sometimes the heart fails to pump blood properly and this causes the blood pressure to drop, which in turn, can result in dizziness and vomiting.

Other possible causes for these symptoms are anxiety, certain medications or even dehydration.

Considering the age, it is very important to rule out a heart condition first, so I recommend he sees a doctor at the earliest convenience for a physical examination and further testing.

I hope this answers your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care.
