Question : Being treated for depression on Effecxor xr 180. For about 2 ys. Doctor added Abilify 2mg 3 weeks ago. Felt good first week, then started gaining weight rapidly. 3rd week gained 7 pounds on 1800cal a day. Hard time swolling and extreme stumach pains & bloating. Stopped taking 3 days ago. Symptoms are starting to go away but pain in stomach and Bad Gerds.

Fit shape, 54, 6ft, 190lbs (203 lbs right now, gained 13pounds 2 weeks)

Hello,

Abilify can indeed cause GI distress and weight gain. This is reversible by stopping the medication, and a healthy diet and exercise. Talk to your doctor about alternatives. You should be good now.
