Question : Blood. She said this was normally your period, but as I’ve not had a period for 4 years and now have bleeding every other day what could this be?
She said could be infection, but that would normally change colour in the ultrasound and recent swabs came back negative.

What could the pool of blood be in the ultrasound when I’m only having spotting each week not a full period and haven’t for 4 years?

Many thanks

Brief Answer:
Spotting due to Mirena

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I understand your concerns.

Following is my reply:

1) You may not have had periods for past 4 years as you have mirena in place

2) Mirena is a progesterone releasing intrauterine device which leads to such intermittent spotting.

3) Withdrawal of progesterone hormone leads to such intermittent spotting and not full periods.

4) Collection of blood is common as mirena is big in size and obstructs flow of blood completely to outside of womb.

5) There is no reason to worry about blood collection as this is normal.

Hi Dr XXXXXXX

Thank you, the problem is I have pelvic pain nearly every week
Sometimes on many days and bleeding every 2-3 days (lightly) why would I have pain so often and why so much bleeding would spotting not be less regular than every few days?

I have had swabs and urine test come back normal, no obvious signs on ultrasound of anything

Thanks
