Question : I'm a 55 year-old male. I'm taking 5mg Lisinipril and 25 mg hydrochlorothiazide daily. My BP is around 110-130 /85-95 when taking the BP meds. heart rate is kinda high 80-130 at rest . I caught a cold a couple days ago, mostly coughing and runny nose. My left sinus has gotten infected but getting better. My question is that my BP has gotten higher especially the bottom number and my heart rate is 120-135 even when I wake up in the morning. Is this serious? I also get nauseous when my BP gets high and when I eat something.
Brief Answer:
A beta blocker may help
Detailed Answer:
Dear Sir,
Your blood pressure numbers are ok, but your heart rate is quite high.
If you were my patient I would perform an ECG to exclude arrhythmia, as elevated heart rate is often caused by arrhythmias. In case there is no arrhythmia, I would check serum electrolytes and maybe thyroid, it would depend your physical examinations ( it is not possible to say without seeing the patient). If these come back normal I would simply add a beta blocker to your treatment, it would decrease heart rate and a little blood pressure.
Wishing you good health

Thanks for the response. My follow up question is although my BP top number is okay, My bottom number can easily go to 100 and breathlessness occurs. Would an increase of Lisinipril help and what is a normal dosage. Also, only since I developed a Sinus infection has all of my numbers increased. Normal ?
Brief Answer:
Welcome back
Detailed Answer:
Dear Sir,
Any infection can aggravate the existing disease.
Of your heart rate is high, the best solution for you will be a beta blocker, which will control both, heart rate and blood pressure.
