Question : Symptoms consist of vomiting, loss of bladder control, blood pressure 77 over 35 and physically collapsing where she can not get herself up off the floor. Presently placed in ICU with antibiotic drip. Female 68 years old. Ten years ago had an aortic valve replaced, aortic aneurysm removed and pacemaker placed. What are the possibilities?

Hello,

The symptoms she experienced is most likely indicative of underlying urinary tract infection which has progressed to septicemia. Septicemia occurs due to the infection spreading into the blood stream.
Septicemia requires treatment with antibiotics in an intensive care setting. You can also discuss her diagnosis and her response to antibiotics with the treating physician. Once she responds to antibiotics, her blood pressure and general health will be restored to normal.
