Brief Answer:

Can take a few days, may need to combine with another medication

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

Unfortunately, Zantac and similar meds can sometimes take a few days to work in some persons.

This is because they stop future acid production but cannot get rid of the acid already present. This means that sometimes the effect is not felt till a few days after they are started.

You may need to combine it with another medication for a few days eg tums or a similar product.

These work on the acid present but do not stop further production so they would work well with the Zantac or alternative (eg Pepcid or Prilosec, Prevacid, Nexium).

Hope I have answered your query.

Take care
