Question : Hello doctor,
I am a healthy 44 YO male, tall and slim.
However, during a routine blood test 2 years ago my bilirubin levels were elevated, 10% above the XXXXXXX I repeated the test 1 month ago and it is now 25% above the XXXXXXX
My stool is always yellow for the last 3 months, it was yellow before, but not that long. I also noted that it floats. It is consistent, and i defecate daily.
No other problems, except some sharp pangs around the lower abdomen towards the anus, the frequency is maybe 1 or 2 every month.
You think there are enough facts to consult a specialist?

Kind regards, XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Gilbert's disease

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for contacting HCM with your health care concerns

You have had recent blood tests that show an isolated elevation in your bilirubin. It sounds like your other liver studies are all normal. This isolated elevation in bilirubin is called Gilbert's disease and is very common. For unexplained reasons when a person with Gilbert's disease fasts or stresses the body there will be an isolated elevation in bilirubin. This is completely benign condition. You have nothing whats so ever to be worried about.

If there are any elevation in liver functions then you should see a liver or GI specialist. Then you could have any of a number of conditions including hepatitis.

I hope I answered your question. Please contact HCM again with your health care concerns

Any connection between the bilirubin and the stool? My stool is always yellow for the last 3 months, it was yellow before, but not that long. I also noted that it floats.

Brief Answer:
stool color is from bilirubin

Detailed Answer:
The stool color is actually derived from bilirubin. The current yellow color may indicate a change in your bacterial flora and has nothing to do with Gilbert's or you elevated bilirubin.
