What Do Fever And Diarrhea While On Treatment For Sinusitis Suggest?

default
Posted on Tue, 6 Oct 2015
Question: Hi, I recently went to the doctor with flu like symptoms. After being checked out (no blood testing, just strep- and had passed the window for the flu test), I was diagnosed, and started being treated for sinusitis. I had an antibiotic shot there, and brought home ten days worth of Augmenton (antibiotic) to take. My symptoms got worse, and I started running fever. I have not had stomach cramps or gas, but I have horrible diarrhea at least 5-6 times a day, and it has NO odor (which I found strange). I'm not sure if the antibiotics are causing this (which I stopped taking last night). And, the diarrhea has not even slowed down with anti-diarrheal medication. What is wrong with me? And why SO much diarrhea?

Brief Answer:
Diarrhea in because of Augmentin...

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thanks for posting the query

The diarrhea following intake of Augmentin is a common side effect of this drug. Do not worry! Once you stop the antibiotic, the diarrhea will stop. You need to take probiotic to help in restoring the flora of the gastro-intestinal tract.

My suggestions to you are:
1. Stop the antibiotic. Get back to your doctor and request for a change in the antibiotic (probably cephalosporins)
2. Drink lots of warm water. Warm water relieves the nasal and throat congestion.
3. Do steam inhalation 2-3 times a day for at least 2 min. Steam does the same function as no. 2.
4. Use saline nasal spray, to relieve the nasal congestion and easy clearing of the sinus secretions.

Hope this answers your query; Revert back to me if you have any follow-up queries.
