If he has had this habit all his life, then it is nothing to worry about, but it is just his pattern of bowel movement.
If he has this bowel movement more then 3 times/day just recently, then it may be a viral infection and will go away in few days.
If he has this bowel movement more then 3 times/day, watery for more then 3 weeks then this is normal and he should see a doctor.
also, even if he has blood or mucus in the stool, both are indications to suggest that he needs to see a doctor.
If worse or not better, I would recommend seeing a local doctor.
