Posted on Fri, 24 Jul 2015
Question: I just did a blood glucose test and y results were 102. I haven't ate in 6 hours, and I have begun to have frequent urination just today, with small amounts. Am I in the pre diabetic stage?

Brief Answer:
Glucose

Detailed Answer:
Did you do this blood glucose test using a meter/monitoring device or did you have it done at a laboratory?

If it was on a meter then it can be within 20% on either of the true reading. The lab glucose test is typically accurate and used as the reference.

Moreover, 6 hours is not the ideal time gap. Eight to fourteen hours is recommended overnight followed by a fasting blood sample the following morning.

This is one way to check for diabetes and pre diabetes.

There are 2 other tests too:

HbA1c

and

2 hour post glucose challenge on OGTT (Oral Glucose Tolerance Test)

So your reading of 102 is hard to interpret considering these factors

Ok. I have a doctor's appointment scheduled in 5 days.

What about the frequent urination? This was what started my whole concern and caused me to purchase the device. The urination is occurring in 30-60 minute intervals and has been happening for the past 8 hours. It is never a large amount either.

Brief Answer:
Follow up

Detailed Answer:
This is most unlikely due to the mildly elevated glucose levels.

Frequent urination typically tends to occur when blood glucose levels are persistently and significantly elevated around 250 plus or thereabouts

Ok, this definitely makes me feel a bit better. Still to be on the safe side, I will get a more accurate glucose reading. I hardly ever have to visit the doctor so this is all new to me. This is why I did some research and came here.

Thanks!
