What Do High Cholesterol And Triglycerides Levels Indicate?

default
Posted on Thu, 1 Dec 2016
Question: Hello Doctor,
I need your advice regarding my High Cholesterol and Triglycerides Level (above 500) which I came to know about this around one year back.
My Weight is around 68Kg and height is 5.5"
I consulted cardiologist and he suggested me to continue Fenolip 145 Mg but my cause of worry is why this level is so high even when I neither consume alcohol nor I smoke. I do exercise daily for around 30-40 min and consume low Fat Dietary foods only. I feel fit and don't have any medical condition.

I am also consuming flex seeds from quite long time everyday.

There is no historical background related to cardiac in my family so we can say this can't be genetic.
I have also gone through HBAC1 test also and that was normal.
Please suggest the unknown reason for this issue as I am seeking some permanent fix of this issue with less medicine.
Thanks
doctor

Brief Answer:
Could be familial hypercholesterolemia. Kindly read ahead

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for posting in HCM.
According to your height, your weight is in normal range.
As you mentioned, you feel fit and are physically active alongwith good diet. So there is no extra reason that could explain the rise in triglycerides and cholesterol.
The only explainable reason I feel here is you could have familial hypercholesterolemia where it is found in families but a person could be physically fit and do not have symptoms.
I also will advise here to continue Fenolip with the same mentioned dosage for longer time. Yes, it could have effects on liver but they are reversible after stopping the drug.
Here I could suggest that you can start combination of statin and fenofibrate instead of only taking fenofibrate. Kindly ask your cardiologist whether that can be started instead of only fenofibrate.
Otherwise there is no other change to suggest regarding diet, exercise and lifestyle which is already you are taking care of.
I hope I have answered your query well.
If you have any more question kindly write back to me, will be happy to help you out.
Thank you.
