What Do Knee Tightness And Difficulty In Bending It Indicate?

default
Posted on Tue, 24 Oct 2017
Question: Currently, I am unable to bend my right knee fully. I can bend it about 90-95% but there is a feeling of tightness. If I raise my both legs off the ground while sitting with my thighs vertical, my left calf can touch the back of my thigh but my right calf does not. I know I can fully bend the knee but I don't due to the tightness. I can walk fine. After I have been sitting, when I get up I have to hesitate about a second before I start walking. I play golf about twice a month. I think I may have injured it when I played twice in three days and walked both times. There is not very much paid. I have been applying a topical ointment called Max-Freeze.

Brief Answer:
This is due to swelling and early Osteoarthritis knee.

Detailed Answer:
Hi I am Dr Gopal Goel Orthopedic Surgeon
I have gone through the details as mentioned by you and in my opinion this is due to early osteoarthritis in the knee joint with swelling on the knee joint. It may be a very small swelling not visible clearly. Excessive walking may cause more difficulty in early stage but normal walking does no harm.
I suggest x ray of both the knees( for comparison ) Pain killers like acetaminophen(since you cannot take NSAIDS In view of ulcer), local heat therapy and continuation of XXXXXXX Freeze tropical ointment. I would add regular quadriceps exercises( to be taught by a physiotherapist).
Since your is early stage clinically , I do expect full recovery in 3-4 weeks. After this time continue the exercises regularly.
I do hope to have been of help. Please feel free to ask any other question.

During this recovery period, can I still play golf as long as I don't walk the course but ride a cart instead OR should I abstain from golf completely during the recovery period?

yes you can play if dont walk for long.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Yes in my opinion you can play golf as long as you don't have to walk long distances and you can ride. There is no need to abstain from playing.
